On the molecular correlations that result in field-dependent conductivities in electrolyte solutions

Employing recent advances in response theory and nonequilibrium ensemble reweighting, we study the dynamic static correlations that give rise to an electric field-dependent ionic conductivity electrolyte solutions. We consider solutions modeled with both implicit explicit solvents, different dielectric properties, at multiple concentrations. Implicit solvent models low concentrations small constants exhibit strongly conductivities. compared these results Onsager-Wilson of Wien effect, which provides a qualitatively consistent prediction high constants, but is inconsistent away from regimes. The origin discrepancy found be increased ion under conditions. Explicit effects act suppress nonlinear responses, yielding weakly over range physically realizable field strengths.
